I just saw Todd Solondz’s film “Happiness.” I loved it!
Which is weird to say because the film is brutally dark and almost unbearable at times. There are so many cinematic things clicking in the film though, and that is what makes it so great. The photography is quit unique with its framing and extremely soft lighting. It plays well into the subject matter of the film and really re-enforces the subject matter. It also just looks great. The acting is superb. Phillip Seymour Hoffman is in it, and I love everything he does, but here he is not a main character, there are no main characters; just many bad ones. This film just seems to be an attack not only on the people in it, but those watching it- so the appreciation is similar to one felt when watching your favorite team lose, but at least it was done with style and a good strategy.
I attest that all his films are great, just check ’em out if you are either Philosophy Nerd Baller/Dunkel/Malleable
